Six Area Businesses Named to “Companies to Watch” List

Six northern Indiana businesses were among the 50 companies from 17 Indiana counties named to the second annual field of “Companies to Watch.”

The accolade, presented by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, its Small Business Development Center network, Purdue University and the Edward Lowe Foundation, recognizes privately held businesses that employ up to 150 employees and have between $750,000 and $100 million in annual revenue or working capital.

The six northern Indiana businesses being honored are:

  • A Packaging Systems LLC. Based in LaPorte, the company manufactures bottle-filling machines and liquid packaging equipment.
  • Albanese Confectionery Group, Inc. Founded in 1983, the Merrillville company’s products include The World’s Best Gummies and Gold Label Chocolates, among other confections.
  • Livemercial, an online marketing and sales company based in Valparaiso.
  • New Carbon Company, Inc., of South Bend. New Carbon markets Carbon’s Golden Malted Pancake & Waffle Flour to foodservice and institutional customers.
  • Omnitech Systems, Inc. Based in Valparaiso, Omnitech designs and manufacturers medical devices.
  • TruPay Corporation. This Mishawaka business provides integrated payroll, human resources, and time and attendance management solutions.

“Mid-sized companies like these named Companies to Watch make up the foundation of the Indiana economy,” said Mitch Roob, Secretary of Commerce and CEO of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.

It’s projected that this year’s 50 winners will have combined revenues exceeding $671 million, and will create more than 560 new jobs, in 2008. The revenue projections represent an increase of more than $200 million from 2008.

All 50 “Companies to Watch” will be honored at an Aug. 27 ceremony at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis.
