Professional Certificate Introduced for School Food Services Personnel

Purdue University Calumet is introducing a certificate program designed to provide professional development and enhance career advancement for individuals working in the K-12 school food services industry.

The new certificate is believed to be one of just two available nationally for school food services professionals.

The program is intended for food services managers, supervisors and others who work in the industry without a college/university degree.

Local Shelter Becomes Access Point for WorkOne Services

The New Creations Men’s Center, a homeless shelter in Valparaiso, will provide access to WorkOne basic core services each Thursday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. beginning December 3rd. Additional days will be added in the future.

To better help with the transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency, the access point will provide both shelter clients access to WorkOne job search information and resources and allow them to register with Indiana Career Connect (ICC) on site. The site will initially be staffed by a WorkOne associate who will also work to train shelter volunteers on the access point set up and operations.

This new access point will also offers people living near the shelter, who might otherwise not be able to visit a full service WorkOne due to transportation, access to employment and job training information and opportunities closer to their home.

New Creations Men’s Center is located at 653 Axe Avenue in Valparaiso. For further information regarding the WorkOne Access Point at the shelter, contact Michelle Ginder or Paul McKenzie at 219-476-4764.
