Packaging Company Chooses Franklin County to Expand Operations

Governor Mitch Daniels joined executives from MBC Group, Inc., a manufacturer of packaged and printed materials, today to announce the company’s plans to expand its operations in Brookville, creating up to 101 new jobs by 2014.

The company, a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business and Minority Business Enterprise, will invest $4.1 million to add four new thermoforming plastic production lines at the company’s 30,000-square-foot facility on the north side of Brookville. It will also expand its digital printing operations currently outsourced with the addition of printing, kitting and fulfillment for point-of-purchase materials. Once the new production lines are operational, the company projects to handle more than $10 million of packaging, digitally printed materials and contract labor for its customers annually.

Indiana Subcontractors Association Announces Annual Award Winners

Notes: Jobs Announcement in Brookville Today

Word is that Indianapolis-based MBC Group will be the focus of a jobs announcement in Brookville today.

The Indiana House has voted to phase out the inheritance tax.

The Indiana Senate, meanwhile, has added a boatload of exceptions to a proposed smoking ban.

Abound Solar is cutting jobs in Colorado, throwing its plans in Tipton into doubt.

A $10 million “auto mall” that would retain 83 jobs and create 15 has been proposed in Muncie.

Bright Automotive executives say the government is to blame for yesterday’s shutdown of the company.

Whiting Gets Ball Club

Oil City Stadium in Whiting, IN, will be the new home of the Northwest Indiana Oilmen Baseball Club, play will begin in June. Club owners Don Popravak; Northwest Indiana’s Legend and former White Sox Slugger Ron Kittle along with Whiting Mayor Joe Stahura made the announcement today at Whiting City Hall.

The Midwest Collegiate League team will be made up of top collegiate players from around the country, getting their first taste of professional-level wood bat baseball. Collegiate summer baseball is the first step for the majority of all baseball players who progress to the minor and major leagues. It gives MLB Scouts an opportunity to evaluate how these top players perform with wood bats, which are not used during the regular collegiate spring season. Ron Kittle added, “the league is designed to allow our players the opportunity to find that true sweet spot and start their journey to fulfill their dreams of playing at the highest level.”

Automotive Manufacturer Plans Warren County Expansion

Flex-N-Gate Corporation, an original equipment manufacturer of automotive parts, announced plans today to expand its operations in Covington, creating up to 68 new jobs by 2012.

The Illinois-based company, which also provides product engineering, project management and testing services, has already begun investing $5.1 million to purchase robotic welding cells and improve supporting infrastructure at the company’s 440,000-square-foot facility at 11778 W. 600 S. in Covington.

AT&T Investments in Indiana Top $1 Billion from 2009 to 2011

AT&T invested more than $1 billion in its Indiana wireless and wireline networks from 2009 through 2011 with a focus on improving the company’s mobile broadband coverage and overall performance of its networks.

During 2011, AT&T made nearly 1,250 wireless network upgrades in four key categories in Indiana. These enhancements include:

  • Activating 20 new cell sites or towers to improve network coverage.
  • Deploying faster fiber-optic connections to more than 350 cell sites. Combined with HSPA+ technology, these deployments enable 4G speeds.
  • Adding capacity or an extra layer of frequency to cell sites – like adding lanes to a highway – with the addition of nearly 650 of these layers, or “carriers.”
  • Upgrading nearly 225 cell sites to provide fast mobile broadband speeds.

AT&T also launched its new 4G LTE network in Indianapolis.

Japanese Manufacturer Boosts Production at Indiana Plant

Sintering Technologies, Inc., has commenced full-scale production of valve timing control systems at its Greensburg plant after completing improvements to the facility which will boost its production capacity by 150%.

The company, a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Hitachi Chemical Co., Ltd., is also changing its name to Hitachi Powdered Metals (USA), Inc., as of April 1. Hitachi Chemical Group aims to use this change of name to associate the company with Hitachi Chemical and raise its profile within its market and customer base.

The company has been manufacturing and distributing powder metal products for vehicles since 1995, after originally being established as a joint venture company of Hitachi Powdered Metals Co., Ltd. and a local company in 1987. It enhanced its valve timing control system component manufacturing facilities and increased production capacity in expectation of increased demand for valve timing control system component in the North American market.

Lighting Controls Company Expanding in Fort Wayne

Touché Lighting Controls, a new product line of ESI Ventures, is planning to expand its operations at its existing facility in Fort Wayne. The companys has developed an automated lighting control system targeted at new and retrofitted commercial construction. The focus of this system is energy savings, ease of installation and integration.

In 2012, Touché Controls will be expanding its line to integrate security, heating/ventilation, personnel access, and audio/video control lines. The company will invest $1.5 million over the next three years to provide a level of integrated automation that is not currently available in the marketplace.
